Business Pitch Design
Any type of business pitch needs to be focused, relevant, easily understood and to the point. It is often more difficult to craft an effective short pitch (less than 5 minutes) than a long form pitch (10 – 20 minutes). Yet it is worth the extra effort to build a short, focused pitch that does not waste the time of your audience (e.g. customers, clients, partners, suppliers, potential team members, investors), or cause them to lose interest.
Notwithstanding the different types of business pitches – e.g. sales pitch, investor pitch, marketing pitch, funding pitch, competition pitch, business plan pitch etc. – a successful business pitch is always more focused on your audience’s needs, interests and pain points, than on your own.

One of the simplest ways to connect your value proposition to your audience is by describing: “My company will help you, the (fill in the blank audience), with W service that will provide X benefits or Y return on your investment in Z number of years.” Always finish your business pitch with a clear request inviting your audience to take action – whether their first next step is to purchase, invest, provide feedback, share professional insights, mentor, collaborate or make a connection request.
